What Should We Wear for an Orlando Photography Session?
Planning outfits for your photo session can make a big difference in how your images look and feel. In Orlando, lighter colors and breathable fabrics tend to photograph beautifully in outdoor locations while also keeping everyone comfortable in Florida’s warm climate. Yes, trust me on this, it is quite warm lol. Soft neutrals, pastels, and earth tones usually work well together and help create a timeless look in your portraits.
Instead of matching outfits exactly, try coordinating colors across the family so everything feels cohesive without looking overly staged. Simple patterns, natural textures like linen or cotton, and clothing that allows you to move comfortably will help your portraits feel relaxed and natural.

Best Time of Day for Photos in Orlando
Lighting plays a huge role in how your photos look and feel. In Orlando, the time of day that you choose can completely change the tone of your session.
SUNRISE SESSIONS
Sunrise is often the best option for soft, even light and minimal crowds. Locations are quieter, temperatures are cooler, and the overall atmosphere feels calm and relaxed, especially helpful for families with young children. Do you have a favorite
GOLDEN HOUR + SUNSET
The hour before sunset creates warm, glowing light that adds depth and dimension to your images. This is a popular choice for couples and families looking for that classic, golden look. If you want your photos to look more cinematic and artistic, you can't go wrong with scheduling your Orlando portrait session during golden hour.
LATE MORNING & AFTERNOON
While midday light can be stronger and much harsher, it can still be used effectively with the right approach. Open shade, tree cover, and directional light allow for clean, natural images even outside of sunrise or sunset. Finally, we can use artificial light or flash if none of the foregoing natural light photography options are available to us.

ORLANDO WEATHER AND PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
Orlando has two types of weather, warm and dry, or hot and humid, seriously. Our warm subtropical climate allows outdoor photography year-round. However, knowing the local weather patterns can help families plan the best session experience. Summer in Orlando can be hot and humid, with temperatures often reaching the high 90s°F and frequent afternoon thunderstorms during the summer. I can tell you that I don't live in Orlando for the summers. However, here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind when planning your Orlando photo session:
Schedule sessions near sunset
Golden hour provides softer light and cooler temperatures.
Avoid the midday heat
Summer afternoons are the hottest time of day. It's best to schedule your summer session during the early morning or evening. While you can shoot during mid-day comfortably during other times of the year, the lighting may not be the best. Aim for golden hour whenever possible.
Be flexible with weather
Short afternoon rain showers are common during summer months but usually pass quickly.
Spring and fall are often the most comfortable seasons for outdoor photography in Orlando, while winter offers mild temperatures and beautiful golden light.
Overall, Orlando’s warm climate makes it one of the best places in the country for outdoor portrait photography year-round. See my complete guide on the best time of year for photos in Orlando.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What makes Orlando a great location for family portraits?
Orlando offers an incredible variety of photo backdrops within a short distance. Families can choose from scenic lakes, historic downtown streets, tree-lined parks, and luxury resort settings. The warm Florida climate also allows for outdoor portrait sessions throughout most of the year, making Orlando one of the most versatile locations for family photography in Central Florida.
When is the best time of year for family photos in Orlando?
Fall and spring are the most popular seasons for outdoor portrait sessions in Orlando because the weather is typically cooler and the lighting is beautiful in the evenings. However, winter sessions are also very popular with families visiting the area. With Florida’s mild climate, professional photographers can capture beautiful portraits here during nearly every month of the year.
What time of day is best for an Orlando portrait session?
The best time for outdoor photography in Orlando is during golden hour, shortly after sunrise or before sunset. This time of day provides soft, flattering light and comfortable temperatures. If golden hour is not ideal for your schedule, many Orlando locations also provide shaded areas that work well for mid-day portrait sessions.
Do you work with families visiting Orlando for vacation?
Yes. Many of my portrait sessions are with families visiting Orlando for vacations or special celebrations. Scheduling a family photo session during your trip is a wonderful way to capture memories while everyone is together. Popular locations for visiting families include resort areas, scenic parks, and beautiful lakeside settings throughout the Orlando area.
How far in advance should I book a photographer in Orlando?
It is best to book your Orlando photography session at least 3–4 weeks in advance, especially during busy travel seasons such as spring break, summer, and the holidays. Planning ahead ensures availability and allows time to choose the perfect location and session time for your family.
What should we wear for our Orlando family photo session?
Light, neutral, and coordinated colors tend to photograph beautifully in outdoor Orlando settings. Soft tones, pastels, and natural fabrics work especially well with Florida’s bright landscapes and warm lighting. Avoid busy patterns or large logos so the focus stays on your family and the connection between you.
Where are the best locations for family photography in Orlando?
Orlando offers many beautiful locations for portraits including lakeside parks such as Lake Eola, garden settings, charming downtown areas such as Downtown Orlando, and scenic nature preserves. Each location offers a different look and atmosphere, so we can choose a setting that matches your family’s style and the overall feel you want for your portraits.
How long does a typical Orlando portrait session last?
Most portrait sessions last 30 to 60 minutes, which is usually the perfect amount of time to capture a variety of images while keeping the experience relaxed and enjoyable. This timeframe works especially well for families with young children and allows us to capture natural, genuine moments.
