Forget the Camera. Focus on Each Other.
As an Orlando photographer, I've learned that the best couples photos have very little to do with posing and everything to do with feeling comfortable. My sessions are relaxed, natural, and never rushed, giving you the freedom to be yourselves while I focus on the light, the little details, and the moments that make your relationship unique. The result is timeless couples and engagement photos that feel effortless because they truly are.
Couples & Engagement Photography in Orlando
One of the first things I hear from almost every couple is "We're so awkward in front of the camera."
Honestly, that's completely normal. In fact, the couples who say it the most usually end up with some of my favorite photos.
I've learned that every couple is different. Some are laughing and joking from the moment we meet. Others take fifteen or twenty minutes to relax, and that's perfectly okay. I don't expect you to be someone you're not or force interactions that don't feel natural.
Before every session, I tell my couples the same thing.: You can't mess this up.
You don't need to know how to pose or worry about looking perfect. If you enjoy being together, you've already done the hard part. I'll guide you through the rest, help you feel comfortable, and capture the moments that happen naturally along the way!
What Actually Makes a Great Couples Session?
One thing photography has taught me is that the prettiest location isn't always the best one. The best location is the one with the best light.
I've done sessions in some of Orlando's most popular spots that felt rushed because they were crowded. I've also shot incredible sessions in quiet parks that most people have never heard of, and apartment complexes right next to a parking lot. Beautiful light, a relaxed atmosphere, and room to be yourselves will always produce the best photos.
Over the years, my approach has changed too. Early on, I posed almost every shot. Today, I still give plenty of direction, but I also know when to step back. Some of the best images happen in the in-between moments, when you're laughing together, holding hands, or simply enjoying each other's company.
My background in street photography taught me to anticipate moments instead of forcing them. That's why some of my favorite images happen between the poses.
The Little DETAILS THAT You Never Notice (But I Do)
While you're 100% focused on your partner, I'm watching everything that is happening around you. I'm observing how the light and shadows fall across your faces, checking for distractions in the background, and making tiny adjustments that completely change how a photo looks.
Sometimes I'll move you just a few feet because the light is softer there. I might look a little crazy constantly changing my mind but that's because the light is always changing and I'm always making small adjustments! It will make you look great, trust me! Other times, I'll have you stand next to a light-colored wall, not because I want it in the photo, but because it reflects soft light back onto your face and creates a more flattering portrait without ever using a flash.
I'm also paying attention to things that most people never think about. The color and texture of the pavement, for example, can reflect unwanted color onto your skin. A bright sidewalk can naturally brighten your face, while darker or painted surfaces can do the opposite. These are small details, but they make a noticeable difference in the final image.
Even an ordinary location can become a beautiful backdrop. Instead of looking at the entire scene, I'm searching for one small area with clean backgrounds, flattering light, and just enough separation to keep the focus where it belongs. I'll often photograph you with a longer lens, which softly blurs everything behind you so your connection becomes the first thing people notice.

FEATURED CLIENT SESSION
COUPLES ANNIVERSARY SESSION AT CELEBRATION, FL
In June, 2026, this repeat client couple reached out to celebrate their anniversary. Since they were already comfortable in front of my camera, we were able to skip the awkward introductions and jump right into creating beautiful images together. They wanted a setting that felt romantic and timeless. Celebration was the perfect fit. It captures some of that same storybook feeling people love about Disney without the crowds or photography restrictions.
We started this session in front of Celebration Town Center on Lake Rianhard, with Market Street behind them, sitting on the steps down to the waterfront. What makes this spot work so well are the string lights hanging in the background. From there, we moved to the side of Celebration Hotel, where I encouraged them to slow down, walk together, and simply enjoy the evening. Rather than forcing every pose, I let the session unfold naturally, stepping in with direction when needed and stepping back when genuine moments happened on their own.
One of my favorite parts of the session came near the old AMC theater. Their outfits, the soft evening light, and the vintage architecture all came together in a way that felt almost cinematic. Sometimes everything simply falls into place, and this was one of those evenings.
The Best Locations for Couples & ENGAGEMENT
Photos in Orlando
One of the most common questions I get from clients: where should we do our portraits? Orlando and its surrounding areas offer an incredible variety of landscapes, from lakefront sunsets to historic tree-lined streets Here are five of the most romantic spots for couples photography in Orlando:
01 Lake Baldwin Park, Orlando
Tucked into the Baldwin Park neighborhood, this lakefront park offers one of the most stunning golden hour backdrops in the city. The open water catches the last light of day in a way that turns everything copper and soft. It's spacious enough for privacy, with walking paths, grassy banks, and a dock that photographs beautifully. Perfect for relaxed, romantic sessions that feel effortlessly cinematic.
02 Leu Gardens, Orlando
A 50-acre botanical garden on the shores of Lake Rowena, Harry P. Leu Gardens offers the kind of lush, layered backgrounds that make photos feel like paintings. Think massive camellias, dramatic tree canopies, rose gardens, and winding brick paths. Sessions here have a quiet romance, shaded, and rich with texture.
03 Windermere Lakefront
The town of Windermere, just west of Downtown Orlando, sits on a chain of private lakes with a quiet, elevated beauty. Grand old oaks, moss-draped banks, and the stillness of the water create a setting that feels luxurious. Sessions here work especially well at dusk, when the water goes silver and the light does everything for you. Intimate, refined, and genuinely stunning.
04 Downtown Winter Garden
Winter Garden's offers historic brick storefronts on Plant Street and a warmth that feels like a small town. The architecture provides a beautiful backdrop, especially for couples who want photos that tell a story of a place, not just a moment. Early morning and late afternoon sessions here are particularly magical, when the streets are quiet and the light rakes long and golden.
05 Kraft Azalea Garden, Winter Park
This small but spectacular lakefront garden in Winter Park is one of Central Florida's best-kept photography secrets. Ancient cypress trees draped in Spanish moss rise from the edge of Lake Maitland, and an old stone exedra frames the water in a way that looks like it was built for photography. Sessions here have an ethereal, timeless quality.
6. Lake Eola Park
Lake Eola Park is one of my favorite places for couples photography. From the iconic fountain and swan boats to tree-lined walkways and downtown cityscapes, the park offers a wide variety of backdrops within a short walking distance. Lake Eola provides a timeless setting with plenty of opportunities for both candid and posed images. Want to learn more? Read my complete Lake Eola Park portrait session guide here.
WHAT IS AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
An engagement session isn't a completely different experience from a couples session. It's simply a couples session with one extra chapter in your story. The same relaxed approach, genuine connection, and natural direction all apply. The only difference is that we'll spend a little extra time celebrating the engagement ring and this exciting season of your life!

Frequently Asked Questions - ORLANDO COUPLES' PHOTOGRAPHY
What is the best location for couples photos in Orlando?
It depends on the feel you're after. For lush, botanical backdrops, Leu Gardens is hard to beat. For lakefront golden hour magic, Lake Baldwin Park and Kraft Azalea Garden in Winter Park are favorites. If you love the charm of a historic downtown, Winter Garden's Plant Street is beautiful. I always recommend choosing a location that means something to you, or one that reflects the aesthetic you love, and I can help narrow it down during our planning call.
How far in advance should we book our engagement session?
For peak season (October through February), booking 2–3 months in advance is ideal. If you're planning around a wedding date or a specific milestone, earlier is always better. Popular weekend dates in the fall can fill up quickly. For spring and summer sessions, 4–6 weeks is usually enough runway.
Do you help with posing and direction?
Absolutely. Posing guidance is built into every session. I don't just say "stand there and smile". I give you small, natural prompts (a whisper, a walk, a reaction) that create real expressions and genuine interaction. The goal is always to make posing feel like something you're doing together, not something being done to you.
Can we choose our own location?
Yes! and I love when couples have their own ideas. If there's a place that holds meaning for you (where you had your first date, where he proposed, a spot you've always loved), let's talk about it. I'll assess the light and logistics and give you honest feedback. Your session should feel like yours, not like a cookie-cutter shoot.
What happens if it rains on our session day?
We'll always have a plan. For brief Florida summer afternoon storms, I often recommend we wait it out. The light after a rain storm in Orlando can be extraordinary. For full-day washouts, we'll reschedule at no charge. I build flexibility into my calendar specifically for this, because weather shouldn't derail something this important.
How many photos will we receive?
A standard 60-minute couples session delivers 50–75 fully edited images. Longer sessions yield more. Every image in your gallery has been individually reviewed and edited. I don't pad galleries with near-duplicates. Every photo I deliver is one I'd be proud to put on a wall.
Do you also photograph weddings and families in Orlando?
Yes! Engagement photo sessions are often just the beginning. Many of my couples come back for wedding coverage, and later for family and newborn sessions. If you're interested in exploring the full range of what I offer, check out my website or just ask during our consultation call.
