Shingle Creek Regional Park Photography: A Kissimmee, FL Location Guide
Shingle Creek Regional Park’s Babb Landing is a great spot for family and couples photography in Kissimmee, FL, thanks to its moss-draped oak trees, open field, tree-lined path, and rustic fence. I recently photographed a 25-person family reunion here, and the large field gave us room for a group portrait beneath two beautiful oak trees!
Why I Chose Babb Landing for a 25-Person Family Reunion
For this session, I needed a location with enough space for 25 people. Babb Landing had exactly what I was looking for: a large field, natural scenery, and several nearby spots for variety. It was also close to the family’s vacation rental in Kissimmee, making it a convenient choice for their reunion.
Room for a large family
The open field at the South side of the Park gave us room to gather everyone for one full-group portrait. Nearby trees and paths offered different backgrounds for the smaller family groupings. This flexibility makes Babb Landing worth considering for extended family sessions, especially when you want a mix of group portraits and more relaxed images. Pro tip: Kids love to explore the fence surrounding the Pioneer Village and gaze out at the historic buildings!
A natural Florida backdrop
The scenery includes mature oak trees, Spanish moss, greenery, and open space. The wider Babb Landing property also features several natural Florida habitats, including oak hammocks and wetlands, as well as lots of nature trails, a creek, and other natural landscapes.
My Favorite Photography Spots at Shingle Creek Regional Park - BABB LANDING
1. The tree-lined walking path
This was one of my favorite spots because the path creates a natural leading line, drawing attention toward the people in the photograph.
It works well for:
- Couples portraits
- Smaller family groups
- Lifestyle images with movement
- Relaxed, walking portraits
2. The open field and oak trees
The field was ideal for the family reunion. My favorite image from the session was the full group of 25 people gathered under and between two large oak trees with the field behind them. The light, colors, and composition came together beautifully. The trees framed the family, creating a natural backdrop without distracting from the people in the photo.
One thing to know: Soccer games may take place in the field, affecting both the background and parking.
3. The rustic fence near Pioneer Village
The rustic wooden fence offers a different look from the field and the walking path, making it a good option for portraits with a country-inspired feel. Pioneer Village is a historic area within the broader property, featuring relocated historic rustic buildings. The village may have separate access and permit requirements, so check current rules before planning to photograph inside.
Is Shingle Creek Good for Family and Couples Photography?
Yes! The mix of open space, trees, and paths makes Babb Landing a versatile option for outdoor portraits.
Family photography in Kissimmee, FL

If you’re comparing family photo locations in Kissimmee, consider your group size, walking distance, and whether you want open scenery or more shaded backgrounds.
The Best Time for Shingle Creek Regional Park Photography
I’d generally consider morning or evening, particularly from fall through spring. The best timing depends on the season, weather, and the direction of the sun.
Plan around golden hour
Golden hour can create beautiful light, but the sun’s direction matters. During my evening session, I couldn’t use every angle I wanted because of the sun’s position and the soccer game beside the field. Photographing in certain directions would have included the game or created lighting challenges.
Have a backup location
There’s another area behind Pioneer Village that offers an alternative angle, but it requires a longer walk.
Before your session, consider:
- Which background matters most to you
- Whether you’re comfortable walking farther
- Whether anyone in your group has mobility needs
- Whether soccer activity may affect the field
A flexible plan makes it easier to adapt to the conditions on the day.
What to Know Before Your Session
Parking, paths, and restrooms
During my visit, I found parking near the photo areas and paths that made it easy to move around.
The restroom was about a five-minute walk from the area that I used for my photo session. Parking may be busier when soccer games are taking place, so allow extra time.
What to wear
Earthy and neutral colors complement the greenery well. Consider:
- Cream, tan, brown, olive, or muted blue
- Coordinated colors instead of identical outfits
- Comfortable shoes for grass and walking paths
- Water and insect protection as needed
I didn’t notice many bugs during my session aside from a few gnats and mosquitoes, but Florida conditions vary with the weather and season.

How I Approach Photography Sessions AT SHINGLE CREEK REGIONAL PARK
My approach combines gentle prompts with traditional posing. I adjust the direction to suit each client, so you don’t have to worry about knowing what to do in front of the camera. For larger families, we’ll plan the full-group portrait and then make time for smaller groupings where possible. For couples, I may use prompts that encourage movement and connection alongside more traditional poses. I’d love to photograph a smaller family session at Babb Landing in the future. With fewer people to coordinate, there would be more time to explore additional spots and create a wider variety of images.
