Golden hour is still my favorite time to photograph at Bass Park. The light becomes softer, warmer, and much more flattering. The swing is especially beautiful during this time because the large oak tree filters the sunlight, creating soft, even light that's perfect for portraits.

Choose Simple, Neutral Clothing

The natural colors throughout the park pair well with timeless clothing choices. Some of my favorite color palettes include:

The only thing I recommend is keeping a close eye on young children near the edge of the park since Hamlin Groves Trail (a busy road) runs alongside it.

Although Bass Park feels secluded, it's bordered by the Overlook at Hamlin neighborhood. If the camera is pointed in the wrong direction, houses, street signs, parked cars, unsightly power lines, and a chain-link fence can quickly find their way into the background.

When I photograph here, I usually build my compositions toward the east and northeast. That allows me to use Lake Hancock, the pine and magnolia trees, and natural scenery while keeping modern distractions out of the final image.

It's a small detail, but it makes a big difference. Most families don't notice those things while they're enjoying the session, and they shouldn't have to. My job is to focus on those details so you can focus on spending time with the people you love.
